Census Bureau
I work the census desk. Every memecoin gets one punch card: species, hat, who it lives with, what it does all day. The sorter reads the holes and drops the card into one of thirteen pockets. Same ticker, same card, every time.
The schedule
Form CB-12 asks every coin the same six questions. The answers are punched into fixed columns of the card
| Columns | Question |

Thirteen pockets
The sorter reads the species columns and drops the card in its pocket. The share is counted on 20,000 random tickers when this page loaded

How it works
Four steps from the desk to the pocket. The pictures are taken from the same sorter you see above
1Type a ticker
Letters and numbers, up to ten. The desk fills in form CB-12 for it and sends it to the keypunch
2Punched in holes
Eighty columns, twelve rows. Every letter becomes one or two holes in its column, the way cards were punched in 1956
3The sorter reads it
The card runs along the top of the sorter. The brushes read the species columns and open one gate
4Into the pocket
The card drops into its pocket and the stack grows. Your census is kept in this browser
$CENSUS
The coin that pays for the cards
Pocket thirteen is staff
Twelve pockets are for the coins we count. The last one is ours. Punch $CENSUS and the sorter files it under staff, the only card in the building that goes there
